Information About Problem Solving Days

The Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) conducts Problem Solving Day events in communities throughout the country. During these events, TAS employees from a local office are available to assist taxpayers in person who are –

  • Experiencing a financial hardship or having financial difficulties because of a tax problem;
  • Trying, but haven’t been able to resolve an IRS tax problem with the IRS; or
  • Believing an IRS system or procedure isn’t working.

Why is TAS holding Problem Solving Days?

Congress created the Office of the National Taxpayer Advocate as we know it today through the IRS Restructuring and Reform Act of 1998 (RRA 98). The law further strengthened the role of TAS and provided for Local Taxpayer Advocates in each state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

TAS continues to look at ways to serve taxpayers who need help with IRS tax matters. Offering face to face services through Problem Solving Day events within communities, especially in areas where there’s not an IRS presence, helps serve taxpayers and protect their taxpayer rights.

TAS is Your Voice at the IRS. Find a Problem Solving Day event in your community from the list below. Otherwise, you can contact your local TAS office.
