235 tax tip sessions held nationwide to help avoid refund delays

Every year, the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) helps thousands of people with tax problems. This story is only one of many examples of how TAS helps resolve taxpayer’s tax issues. All personal details are removed to protect the taxpayer’s privacy.

Taxpayer advocates from coast to coast, including Puerto Rico, held a combined two hundred and thirty-five events just before the start of the tax filing season. These free tax sessions invited taxpayers to visit and get tax filing tips before filing their tax return. Taxpayer Advocate Service’s tax tips are based on 20 years of experience working with taxpayers to resolve their IRS isses. These tips help provide information on how to avoid some of the most common filing mistakes and subsequently, avoid potential processing and refund delays.

During the week-long outreach events, TAS partnered with local and national organizations, including Low-income Tax ClinicsProblem Solving Day events also continued to be held across the country, helping taxpayers who needed assistance with other unresolved IRS account issues. TAS advocates even took to the road, personally visiting family service centers, veteran’s help offices, food pantries and bus stops, and worked with local cultural centers and translators to share tax tips with non-English speaking taxpayers.

But it wasn’t only taxpayers who were interested in these tips. Several tax professionals attended the learning sessions to gather information they could share with their clients to provide as additional support.

Don’t worry if you didn’t make it to any of the nationwide tax tip events; you can still access all of the tax filing tips and information on the TAS website. Tips on a variety of tax filing, processing, payment options and other topics are added often to keep you up-to-date and informed as the IRS filing season progresses.

If you need information on a specific tax topic, visit the TAS Get Help resource. It offers a step-by step guide on what you can do to settle some IRS issues on your own, what your taxpayer rights are and other options available to help you get resolution. Most issues can be resolved directly by working with the IRS. However, if you have tried, but are still unable to resolve an IRS issue, learn more about whether TAS can help you: TAS eligibility.

When working with the Taxpayer Advocate Service, each individual or business taxpayer is assigned to an advocate who listens to the problem and helps the taxpayer understand what needs to be done to resolve their tax issue. TAS advocates will do everything they can to help taxpayers and work with them every step of the way. Occasionally we feature stories of taxpayers and advocates who work together to resolve complex tax issues. Read more TAS success stories.
